A long-distance migrant which breeds from E Baltic area to C Asia, and winters mostly in lowlands in India/SE Asia (BirdLife International 2021). In Europe it is a scarce breeding bird, mostly concentrated in the E Baltic region (Keller et al. 2020).
There are few encounters in Europe, which are mostly concentrated in southern Finland, to a lesser extent southern Sweden, and show local movements which reflect natal or breeding dispersal or post-breeding dispersal prior to autumn migration. There is an exceptional recovery of a bird ringed in S Sweden in Sep, recaptured in S England in Nov of the same year.
Recoveries by Condition for Blyth's Reed Warbler
Over 95% of all recoveries are of recaptured birds (99% since 1991), with just 1% found dead/sick/injured
Annual Movements for Blyth's Reed Warbler
Insufficient data to properly describe annual movements. Available data show summer displacements in Europe (most encounters in Jun-Jul), due to dispersal, as shown in the ‘Overall connectivity patterns’ section.
