Rather small, all black cormorant. A coastal species with disjunct breeding range on rocky shores of Europe from NE Norway, Iceland, Faroes to UK, NW France, Spain, and Morocco, Mediterranean including N. Africa, and parts of Black Sea. Breeds in large colonies where strongly philopatric. Largely sedentary, but dispersive outside breeding season, with some short-distance migration. Feeds on wide range of pelagic fish. European population is estimated at 76,300-78,500 pairs, appears to be decreasing.
