Vulture associated to main mountain ranges, with a broad breeding range, from W Europe to Asia, also in places in Africa (BirdLife International 2021). In Europe, restricted to main mountain ranges in Spain (mostly Pyrenees, with recent reintroductions in Picos de Europa and Andalusia) and the Alps, Corsica, Crete.

Conectividad global para Quebrantahuesos

No ring-recovery data. GPS-tracked birds show that adults remain in their territory areas for the whole year, whilst juvenile/immature birds disperse. These movements, of up to some hundreds of kilometers, are common up to sexual maturity (>5 years), when birds become territorial (Gil et al. 2010, López-López et al. 2013), quite often in their natal mountain range (Cramp & Simmons 1980). Solitary territorial adults in places situated at boundaries of the main distribution range can show relatively fast and long movements ('excursions'), probably to try to increase social interactions (Arizaga et al. 2019).
